Peace Like a River
by Jimmy Pruitt
This morning while looking out over the Tennessee River, I am awestruck by both it’s beauty and it’s power. The locals in northern Alabama will not wake up wondering if the river is flowing nor will they be concerned of it drying up and going away. Their lives, industry and livelihood depend on the faithfulness and consistency of the river.
I awakened with a sense of God’s nearness and peace. Like the massive river He is both beautiful and powerful. He is not going away. My Father will not abandon His post or throw His hands up in frustration and disgust. No, He will continue to move and allow His grace to flow, much like the river, consistent and abundant. “When peace like a river attendeth my way.”
Just as the Brown’s Ferry Power Plant depends on the river for it’s very life, so too must I depend upon God for the sustenance of life itself. The River of Life will never dry up, stop flowing or fail to move. He is ever faithful and His beauty and power find me awestruck in His presence this morning.
And wherever the river goes, every living creature that swarms will live, and there will be very many fish. For this water goes there, that the waters of the sea may become fresh; so everything will live wherever the river goes. Ezekiel 47:9
